YOU CAN HELP

The birds slaughtered in foie gras production suffer terribly, but unfortunately many consumers are unaware of the cruelty with which the geese and ducks are raised for this product. Please join the effort to eliminate this cruelty. Here are some ways you can help:

  • Contact restaurants and grocery stores in your area and encourage them to pledge not to serve foie gras — ask them to try FAUX GRAS instead!

  • If you live in New York City, please ask Fairway to say no to foie gras.

  • Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse continues to promote foie gras (pronounced 'fwah grah') in his recipes, in his restaurants and on his television shows. In fact, The Food Network's "The Essence of Emeril" show, which aired on September 26, 2006, was devoted entirely to foie gras! Click Here to find out What You Can Do!

Also, please contact these Emeril restaurants that serve foie gras to express your disappointment:

  • Celebrity chef Todd English continues to promote foie gras in his recipes and restaurants. Additionally, he testified against the Massachusetts Foie Gras Bill, S. 498, before the Massachusetts Joint Committee on the Environment, Natural Resources & Agriculture on September 12, 2005. Before that, he asked Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger not to sign SB 1520 which banned foie gras in California. According to The Boston Herald, the sarcastic chef asked the Governor “not to be the Terminator of foie gras.”

Todd English has numerous restaurant chains located across the country. Please contact these restaurants of his that serve foie gras to express your disappointment:

  • AVMA Fails on Foie Gras Issue - Action Still Needed
  • Oprah Winfrey threw a lavish ball in May 2005 for her friends as a tribute to great African-American women. However, at this elaborate party, she served creme brûlée of foie gras and braised veal. Farm Sanctuary hopes she will extend her compassion to suffering animals. Since she never responded to our requests, please find out What You Can Do.
  • Educate your family, friends, co-workers, and associates about foie gras and encourage them not to eat this inhumane product. Ask them to sign the "Please Say No To Foie Gras" petition.

  • Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper detailing how the foie gras birds are mistreated, or consider sponsoring an advertisement, informing others of the cruelty of foie gras production. Click Here for a sample letter.

  • Be creative — there are many ways to get the message out! You can set up a local website with information on area restaurants that serve foie gras, upcoming demonstrations in the area, and opportunities to connect with other activists. There are variety of ways to communicate your message of compassion to others, so look for new opportunities.
