Establishment Outreach: No Foie Gras

Please ask restaurants to have a heart! This simple action on your part will make a strong statement.

Concerned citizens can play a major role in preventing the suffering of ducks and geese by contacting local restaurants and other food establishments and urging them not to sell foie gras. To help with this effort, please call or visit food establishments in your area. Inform the chef or manager about the cruelty of foie gras production, and encourage them to sign the pledge not to serve foie gras. It often helps to provide them with literature or other materials. If writing to the restaurant, click here for some points to consider making in your letter. Click here for sample letters.

If the restaurant refuses to sign the pledge, and insists upon selling foie gras, you may want to consider handing out leaflets in front of the restaurant to educate consumers. In addition, writing letters to the editor of local newspapers, displaying posters, distributing flyers, putting a bumper sticker on your car, and conducting other local educational efforts will also help to raise awareness.

For tips about contacting establishments in your area, please see our Guide to Contacting Restaurants.

For more information and to participate in this effort, please e-mail campaign@farmsanctuary.org or call 607-583-2225 ext. 229.

On Tuesday, April 29, the Pew Commission on Industrial Farm Animal Production released the results of a two and a half year study, confirming what farm animal advocates have long known: that confining farm animals inside tiny crates and cages, subjecting them to routine mutilations, force feeding them, and pumping them full of antibiotics is an untenable situation. The Pew Commission provides additional, compelling and irrefutable data to prohibit these abuses. Read more.
