As citizens concerned about animal welfare, we are writing to encourage you to enact SB 1520. This basic humane proposal will prohibit the inhumane force feeding of birds to make foie gras. Foie gras is produced when a pipe is thrust down the birds' throats and excessive quantities of food are pumped in. The procedure causes enormous suffering as the birds' livers swell up to ten times their normal size. It is wrong to subject animals to this kind of cruelty to produce a luxury food item. We appreciate your attention to this matter, and we hope you will act with compassion by signing SB 1520 into law.
