The
co-operative FDB, the largest supermarket chain in Denmark has decided to boycott
French foie gras on ethical grounds according to purchasing director Finn Harmann.
The supermarket chain decided to pull the 'controversial product' from its shelves
and hopes that other supermarkets will follow suit. Imports of foie gras to Denmark
reached 85.7 tonnes in 1999 with a value of DKr4.7m (631 000 [European Dollar]).
